IF YOU HAVE AMALGAM FILLINGS IN YOUR MOUTH...
YOU NEED TO READ THIS.
In 1988, the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) DECLARED SCRAP DENTAL AMALGAM HAZARDOUS WASTE
The Most Dangerous Metal There Is Mercury
There are over 225 million people in the United States and Canada with mercury/amalgam fillings. In the majority of cases, the daily amount of mercury released by amalgam fillings will far exceed the acceptable levels for mercury set by all govern-mental regulatory agencies. The mercury released from amalgam fillings is by far the leading source of mercury exposure, six times greater than Mercury from fish and seafood.
Mercury is among the most poisonous, non-radioactive, naturally occurring substances on this planet. It is far more toxic than lead, arsenic, or cadmium and the World Health Organization has stated that there is no known safe level for mercury. Mercury is classified as a neurotoxin. It can readily cross the blood brain barrier, and can seriously impair the health and function of the brain and central nervous system.
Mercury has been associated with a number of emotional and psychological problems, such as memory loss, mood swings, anxiety, and depression. It’s now proven that mental toxicity contributes to chronic fatigue, immune breakdown and hypothyroidism. These are just a few health disorders associated with dental Mercury and yet Mercury amalgam is still widely used in the United States to fill cavities in teeth.
The earliest and most common symptoms resulting from chronic mercury poisoning are neurological. Biological Dentistry providers and other researchers have identified the presence of mercury in some of the most severe diseases and disorders of the brain and central nervous system. Some of the more well-known of these are:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
Multiple Sclerosis, (MS)
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease)
But the destruction mercury can cause to the body is not limited to the nervous system. It kills cells (cytotoxic) and can damage the endocrine, immune, cardiovascular, enzymatic, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. It can interfere with, or overload, the natural detoxification pathways of the liver, kidneys, skin, and intestine. Mercury can cause the depletion of the body's supply of many critically important antioxidants, especially the body's number one antioxidant, glutathione. It causes autoimmune disease and stimulates allergic reactions.
In addition, mercury can increase the resistance of harmful intestinal flora, including Candida albicans, to treatment by antibiotics and other drugs. Mercury can also cause a great deal of cellular and tissue damage by generating an excessive amount of harmful free radicals, known to be the major cause of all degenerative diseases. Mercury toxicity has been shown to have destructive contributory effects on kidney function, in cardiovascular disease, neurophchologlocial dysfunction, reproductive disorders, birth defects, arthritis, fatigue, insomnia, moodiness, irritability, memory loss, nausea, diarrhea, gum disease, swollen glands, headaches and many more. Like other heavy metals, Mercury has also been shown to cause damage to the lining of the arteries.
This means that if amalgam fillings are present, your circulatory system is constantly being exposed to the damaging effects of this heavy metal. It’s interesting to note the cardiovascular disease has become widespread only since the 1920’s, about the time of increased use of heavy metals in dental therapy, but long after humans began consuming eggs, meat, milk, butter, and cheese, which are commonly thought to contribute to heart disease, and they do in large amounts.
The use of Mercury fillings is banned or severely curtailed in numerous European countries. According to the German Ministry of Health, “Amalgam is considered a health risk from a medical viewpoint due to the release of Mercury vapor”. But for a long time, the ADA asserted that the Mercury amalgam was a tightly bound chemical complex that would not permit any leakage or release of Mercury.
This was proven wrong in 1985 when studies showed that the air inside the mouth with mercury fillings continually contained elemental Mercury vapor and that chewing substantially increased this vapor level. Amalgams can also erode and corrode with time (ideally they should be replaced after 7-10 years), adding to their toxic output. Studies by the World Health Organization (WHO) show that a single amalgam can release 3-7 micrograms of Mercury per day. A Danish study of random sample of 100 men and 100 women showed that increased blood Mercury levels were related to the presence of more than four amalgam fillings in the teeth.
Since Mercury vapors are continuously released from amalgam fillings, as long as you have Mercury dental fillings, you inhale Mercury vapors 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The resulting level of Mercury in the body has serious health consequences. Research had demonstrated that the body’s tissues, especially the brain, kidney, jaw, lungs, gastrointestinal tract absorb and store Mercury.
Called “Silver” fillings, mercury amalgam filings are actually only 35% Silver, Mercury, a heavy metal, makes up 50% of the mix, with Tin 9% and Copper 6% and trace of Zinc . compromises of the rest of the material used. Every year there are more than 100 million Mercury amalgam fillings put into the mouths of Americans.
HOW MERCURY DISRUPTS THE BODY
Heavy metals such as Mercury act as a free radicals, which are highly reactive, charged particles that can cause damage to body tissues. Mercury can bind to the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) of cells, as well as to the cell membranes, distorting them and interfering with normal cell functions. When this happens, the immune system no longer recognized the cell as a part of the body and will attack it.
Because methyl Mercury crosses the blood-brain barrier, it has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Dr. Klinghardt explains nerve endings in the peripheral nervous system constantly scan the environment, engulfing foreign particles and bringing them across the cell membrane for inspection. “These substances ma travel all the way up from the foot to the spinal cord and get presented to the nerve cells there” he says. If the substance is judged to be harmful, the body tries to produce an antitoxin to neutralize it and eliminate from the body. But there are two problems here when it comes to Mercury. “First, as it travels up the nerve, Mercury destroys the body’s mechanism, a substance called tubulin, for transporting along nerves. Burning bridges behind it, as it were, it effectively destroys the nerve. Second, the body has not yet learned how to make an antineurotoxin against Mercury”
Laboratory research has shown that within 24 hours of injecting a minute dose of Mercury into a muscle anywhere in the body (monkeys were used for this study), it is present in the spinal cord and brain. The Mercury is also present in the kidney, lungs, bloodstream, connective tissue, and adrenal and other endocrine glands. In the brain, it tends to congregate in the hypothalamus, which regulates the sympathetic nervous system, and the limbic systems (associated with brain stem), believed to be the organic seta of emotions.
Dr. Klinghardt states “The main devastating effects of Mercury in the nervous system is that is interferes with the energy production inside each cell, the nerve cell is impaired in its ability to detoxify itself ( and excrete the Mercury) and its ability to nurture itself. The cell becomes toxic and dies, or lives in a state of chronic malnutrition. A multitude of illness usually associated with neurological symptoms result”
Mercury and Childhood Health
Mercury can also have a devastating effect on the health of the fetus, nursing babies and the developing child. Mercury can readily cross the placenta and the majority of mercury released from the mother's mercury/amalgam fillings will end up in the fetus. The fetus is much more at risk to the harmful effects of mercury than are adults. In addition, the fetus does not yet have a functional detoxification system or adequate antioxidant protection needed to defend itself against mercury. It can also enter breast milk and is thus passed directly to the vulnerable baby via nursing. This means that a pregnant or nursing mother, having mercury/amalgam fillings, will potentially expose that fetus and the nursing child to very harmful levels of mercury.
The baby or child is also exposed to toxic doses of mercury from the most common childhood vaccinations. Mercury, used as a preservative, makes up at least 50% of each vaccination. Mercury has now been included as a causative factor in autism, which increased dramatically in the later part of the last century; from 2001 to 2002 autism in California increased by 31%.
There is no doubt about the toxicity of mercury and you and your child should not even be in the same room with it, let alone have it in your teeth. (Please note that we do not recommend having amalgam fillings placed or removed during pregnancy or while nursing. Nor do we recommend placing them in anyone's teeth, especially young children.) Mercury/Amalgam Fillings.
Regardless of how many mercury/amalgam fillings you have, or whether or not you now have any obvious symptoms of mercury toxicity, you will have mercury stored in your body. Its ultimate effect will be determined by the above factors, the overall state of your health, and your body's ability to naturally detoxify itself of mercury.
Mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings is considered chronic and will often accumulate faster than the body can detoxify and remove it. It is known to gradually build up in cells, tissues and organs, until symptoms of mercury poisoning are experienced. The only effective way to reverse the damage done to your body by mercury is to remove the source of the poison (amalgam fillings) and then to remove the mercury that has accumulated in your body.
